I have asked these questions a few times in individual threads, but no one has really given an answer. So, I'll try here.
First, why do people post RS links and embed them in a quote box so that instead of clicking the link, you must cut and paste the link and put it in your browser address box. The same goes for people who type the link: "h**p..." (or some variation like "hxxp"). I really don't get it. If the purpose is to keep the link alive longer, how does this help? People are still using the link, so the same number are dl the set. All it does is make it more time consuming and a pain to get that set. I just don't understand the purpose. In addition, if there is a mole or someone from the site in here looking, they know the link code whether its embedded in a box or letters are messed around. It just makes no sense to me.
Also, why put passwords on the sets. Again, I have no idea what purpose this serves. What is a reason to password protect these sets?
I'm not asking these questions to be negative. I'm simply trying to figure out the reasons. Thanks for any input. |

If you report to Rapidshare that porn from your company is being posted there, RS adds it to their list and automatically seeks out and deletes materials that match their own site`s forbidden list. Protecting your files using passwords avoids the file being opened and deleted by RS staff.
Altering the address or using the CODE feature stops robots and spiders from trolling the site and sucking up the links, because the robots and spiders look for live links (hotlinks), not links embedded inside of CODE tags.
PS I am going merge this post with one of the existing Rapidshare threads and then I am going to send it to the Internet security related forum so the RS info is all stored in that section of the forum. So reply now if you want to add anything to this member`s query. |

Yes, Abraxas is right.
If you post clickable links (hotlinks), the referer tells RS, where the links comes from (Forumophilia) and if the site is on their black list, it's obvious for them that the file contains illegal stuff.
And if there are no pass, they could have a closer look to verify their initial suspicion.
As long as I get free pr0n, I'll don't mind about pass and encryption.

| Yep, as Monkey D. Ruffy has said, which I overlooked mentioning, is the problem relating to referrer site. If you post a link here and I click it, that tells RS which site I came from, and too much traffic from one forum, such as ours, could lead Rapidshare to blacklist our forum. |

I have been in two forums now that actually require all links to be wrapped in code tags. I always wondered why. Both would take action to either edit or trash your post if you didn't wrap the links in codes. They took it quite seriously.
A Mexican forum also suggested password protection, but always required a .zip or .rar, and .rar was suggested with Rapidshare. I couldn't quite understand the wording, so I started posting .zip files. Members were quick to alert me that most of them had problems downloading .zip files from Rapidshare, but not .rar files. I tried to ask one of the English speaking moderators, but he didn't have an answer.
Have you got any ideas why certain regions might have trouble with .zip files uploaded at Rapidshare, but not .rar files?

I always look hard to see if there is a password required. If there is, I copy and paste the thread with the password to another open window until I have unzipped the file. Inevitably, I miss an occasional password and don't realize it until I go to unzip. I have to backtrack if I really wanted the video. Sometimes, although rare anymore, I haven't got a clue where I got the file from. That is the only really annoying part. _________________
