A codec query (I think).
I have an mpg movie which is about 260Mb (from the original source) and another smaller size version from another website. Both play for somewhere around 50 minutes but the displayed movie length is only 57 seconds.
The problem I’ve got is with taking screencaps. With GOMplayer it’s very easy for me to jump around videos and select the best shots to make into a preview sheet and it’s my preferred player to do this. However I can only jump around in the first 57 seconds in this video using the timeline so moving backwards or forwards after this time is something I can’t do. VLC does give me a full timeline but still says the video length is 57 secs and I haven’t found out how to do screencaps with it. Windows Media Player only gives a 57 second timeline and, like GOMplayer, won’t let me jump around after this time (and I don’t know if I can screencap with this program anyway).
So the question is how can I get the players to recognise the full length of the movie so I can move around it as I wish as with other movies I have, in particular with GOMplayer?
Hopefully there’s someone who can help me. I guess it may be a codec problem but none of the players I use refuse to play it and therefore suggest a new codec is required. Any comments? I can provide the video for someone to play with if required.
Thanks in advance

Sorry I can't give you any advice about codecs but to get VLC media player to take screen shots go to a part of the vid you want to capture, pause it, click on "Video" and hit "snapshots". _________________

sounds like the file header is messed up. Probably MPEG Header Corrector will help. I have no experience with that software, since i never had this problem yet. So be careful when using it and better make a backup of your videos.
