|
|
Why are some strings filtered and replaced by others?
Examples:
I WANT TO STEAL YOUR RAPIDSHARE ACCOUNT !!! lavigne <--> a_v_r_i_l lavigne
sex tape <--> s_e_x tape
some more i can't remember in this time.
Is there a list? are there any reasons for the substiitutions? is this just an easter egg thing?
Thanks. Goldengel _________________ PW for all vids: sin90

| When a phisher uses a word on our list of banned words, the PHP in the board`s code replaces the terms such as br1tn3y or somesuch, with the phrase I WANT TO STEAL YOUR RAPIDSHARE ACCOUNT. So that is what you are seeing, and hopefully it is convincing you to stay away from the phishers` posts if and when they are exposed by the automatic rewording of titles of their phisher posts by way of the board`s word censor features. |

thanks abraxas, for the quick reply. In matters of security for the users I fully agree with word filtering.
But isn't an expression like e.g "s'ex tape" without the ' a bit to common in a pornforum to treat it as phising and have it blocked?

Honestly that is not working. You say "when a PHISHER...". Well, I'm not a phisher because otherwise after all my posts you would have thrown me out long time ago.
So when somebody reads your post here and then visits my thread and sees that a word (that by the way was previously allowed here) is replaced by the phrase "I WANNA STEAL..." they will automatically think I'm a phisher.
Andd that is a situation I'm not really happy with.
A statement from a mod would be appreciated. |

So here's a mod, even a Global one .
Do you know that Admins rank above mods even Global or Senior Global ones?!?
Top level rank here on the board is GS (Good Samaritan)
tho he's titled only as Respected VIP club member, it's his board.
Next are the Admins, then the Mods.
And if you have seen these phishing attacks last week with more than ten posts by each member and three to four in a row each titled "Blablabla s.ex tape" and so on you will agree why Abraxas set these keywords to the list.
Better safe than sorry and if you use some phrases on that list, try the preview before posting and use a different title or name. Be creative.

Well, there is no arguing about that it was done for the best.
In my case it
a) concerned the name of the french capital. Hardly a name you would ever think will be put on a < CENSORED > list.
b) I didn't realize that such a phishing attack happened because lately my job kept me busy so I only checked in when there were new posts in my thread. But also except for this thread here I don't see anything at forumophilia mentioning it, which is why
c) I did not look in the first post of my Roy Stuart thread. I usually only look at the last page.
OK, at least now I know. But I admit I wasn't really happy about having such a phrasing in my thread for the reason I stated above. I don't know if it is possible but I would rather have it that actions like these are pointed out in a pinned on thread in this subboard.
Just a suggestion. |

Hi Sir Darkstar,
do you see now why I made that comment about being worried that "the mod is always right". It is not the banning of the typical not allowed stuff but "banning knifes for everybody because there had been a knife fight in the neighbourhood".
And no, this board is not democratic, but when actions are taken for the safety of the members and not the safety of the board, the members should have a say in it. But that's just my opinion. |

| hey, im a mod on another forum of similar size and grandeur as this one... and to combat phishers we have a sticky at the top of most of the boards explaining how to spot phishers.... maybe thats something that could be done here instead of having a automatic word changer or wateva it is.... |

| There are notices. Nobody reads them. Thats why PHP boards such as this forum use word-censor features. |

I am the one who has been implementing the censor-feature so prominently noticed of late. Therefore I am the one whose actions you should be questioning, so dont say 'mods and admins'. I am responsible.
More to the point, none of you likely know how to operate a forum of this size and nature, and so none of you know how to counter the Rapidshare account stealers and trojan/virii spreaders, or you wouldnt be questioning what you dont understand. I do understand, as do the other Administrators and Moderators, from daily experience. And so we (myself in particular) apply whatever methods we can to stop people from suckering you into giving your Rapidshare account to them or downloading their trojans.
You need simply trust us to be striving to do as much as we can do on your behalf, in whatever ways and means as can best be applied to the situation.

All else is just talk and I dont have any interest in explaining why I spend my free time trying to protect you. |
i completely and utterly agree with you and all the other mods who enforce the rules imposed by the owner... i got no qualms with anything having to do with forumophilia.... i mean, i am a new member but so far i like it... it seems laid back and cool... as far as im concerned, block all that crap... doin a heck of a job, and i wouldnt have it any other way (ESPECIALLY since i dont know anything about running a forum) |

Hello, Goldengel. I assume that the owner of this site himself added that phrase, as it already was in place. But I will remove it from the list, and blame it on svinto.

The Watcher, Shadowman is presently on vacation and I dont like mucking up his Rules and Guidance thread, which he spent a lot of time carefully composing. However I`ll add a line to that effect, and I`ll tell him it was Esty.

Thanks, Slade. And the forum is quite happy to have you here.
| sir_darkstar wrote: | | Do you really have to do this. |
Sorry, sir_darkstar, I overlooked your post. When I was speaking earlier of folks not understanding how to best operate a forum of this size due to a simple lack of experience, I was of course excluding you. You ran this place single-handedly, and you ran it well, for a long time. I will send you a Private Message to give you a greater view of what we are doing, given you`re an ex-Adminstrator yourself here at Forumophilia.
Not to be overlooked, svinto does a great deal of work behind the scenes alongside moderating the forum daily. And then there is Esteban who, unfortunetly, is too busy hitting on all the new female members to ever get any work done. But Esty is learning the ropes of operating the site, and together we three, and all of the Moderators, work together as best we can. Even the owner of the site, GoodSamaritan, pitches in and nukes spammers whenever GS is logged onto the forum. I think we make a pretty good team. _________________ VISIT OUR LESBIAN ADVENTURES SECTION
