I want to pass this along to everyone. For the last two days, my browser was hijacked. Every time I tryed to get onto the net, I would get a pop-up from windows. It looked like a legitimate Windows warning message and redirects user to a Windows Explorer cloned website. It will then prompt user to download protection software.
Common Symptoms:
1. Display “Spyware Found” window and “Hardware errors”
I run Mcafee on my system, it did not pick up this threat. I spent hours and alot of money trying to get rid of this. I bought and used
Spyware Doctor 2008
Webroot Spy Sweeper with AntiVirus
Fix-It Utilities 8 Professional
I did deep scans, nothing worked, I searched on the internet and found a forum, this is what was posted. I did it, and now my system works very good, the threat was removed! It was free for me to use, just wanted to pass along to everyone here.....................Warpigs
1. Download Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware (mbam-setup.exe) and save it on your Desktop.
2. After downloading, double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
3. Follow the prompts and install as “default” only
4. Before the installation completes, check on the following prompts:
- Update Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware
- Launch Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware
5. Click “Finish.” Program will run automatically and you will be prompt to update the program
before doing a scan. Please update.
6. Scan your computer thoroughly.
7. When scanning is finished click on the “Show Results”
8. Make sure that all detected threats are marked, click on Remove Selected.
9. Restart your computer. _________________ You have to use Hj-split to join the files....

Oh yes, had a problem like you a few days back, and found exactly the same solution.
"Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware" is a real godsend for all users browsing the net and everybody should get it on his/her computer.
Just to show people what I got, here is the troublesome message:
| wrote: | Windows Warning Message
Spyware detected
WIN32/Adware.Virtumonde
WIN32/PrivacyRemover.M64 |
If you get this stuff (it says something like Antivirus XP 2008 or the like) on your computer, DO NOT click on install!
Just do a scan with "Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware" like warpigs said.
I would additionally recommend removing all temp-files from your computer after performing the scan! _________________ No re-upping of files without showing the appropriate dead link! |
