I tend to drink on all of my days off, I have a basic routine...
I get up, take care of my errands and chores etc... then hit the store on the way in and buy beer, come home and drink until I'm trashed.
That pretty much sums up my off days for about the last month or so...

1.) Are you drinking alone?
2.) Has this drinking interfered with any aspect of your life?
3.) Do you structure your day around work/errands or around booze?
4.) Have any of your personal relationships suffered by your routine?
5.) Do you feel physically ill when there is not alcohol in your system?
6.) Is alcohol a financial burden (depending on your profession) or, do you find yourself purchasing alcohol when you can't afford it?
A few questions to mill over.
Best of luck

3.) Yes, on my days off I tend to hurry up to get home to drink.
4.) I think my problem began with a relationship or a series of failed ones beginning with my divorce...
5.) No
6.) No, I make reasonably good money so its not a problem. |

LOL I just substituted drinking with porn in the list and it doesn't look good for me. Well at least #6 isn't an issue.
But so as not to hijack your thread I would say if you're only doing this on your days off and your answer to #5 is no you're not a drunk but you could be off to a good start. It's good you recognize this as a potential problem rather than being in denial as this will help you you help yourself. I'm not much of a drinker myself but I've seen some good people close to me go totally out of control and it took jail time to finally straighten them out. Now if I could only follow my own advice when dealing with my own addictions. |

On a more serious note I would suggest you try to break that routine as quickly and replace them with different activities like once in a while go out and buy some clothes, go to a club and look for some action, hit the beach stuff like that. Single life has its lows, believe me i know, but its all about meeting people indiscriminately and keeping yourself occupied with productive stuff. Yep that's the meaning of life...
Pussy and work
not always in that order... _________________

| A tip of the hat to Launder and the always insightful Eponine. Pussy and work pretty much sums up life. Like others suggested, the key to changing potentially destructive behavior is with small steps. Best of luck to you. |

I learned to drink in the navy so that wasn't a very responsible start.
I think being worried about it depends some on what you're doing while drinking. I've done a lot of heavy drinking alone but that was always a tag along for getting lost in my large music (vinyl and then cd) collection. Drinking and the internet or computer games never worked very well for me. And I love sleazy dark bars where there are always plenty of stories to go over and occasionally witnessing or taking part in a new one.
A number of years ago I had major back surgery. I was supposed to be out from work at least six months if not forever. About a month and a half into the recovery I got up one morning, took care of the tasks I had to do, and then thought "what do I do now?". Well of course a nice drinking session came to mind and just as quickly the warning thought that that would be a sure way to start one hell of a bad problem. So I haraased my doctor about it enough and got cleared to go back to work part time.
So if you're drinking because you don't know what else to do that is a habit you better break fast or the folks at bumwine dot com will be using you for an example. If you're drinking goes along with something else that you truely like doing (and face it, it's drinking so whatever it is it can't be too constructive) I'd say ok. I've dodged many a DWI and my liver still works but those are also areas to be concerned about. _________________ The Komrades Project: http://www.forumophilia.com/viewtopic.php?t=28636&start=0

Well, I was just wondering . I know I'm headed down a dangerous path that if not controlled will lead to full blown alcoholism. I guess I am substituting alcohol for something. Most likely the lack of companionship in my life.

You won't solve the lack of companionship when you're at home pissed. Unless you invite the local drunks round... _________________ Think of it as evolution in action. |

| Its the point where you need to ask others about it. This is actualy a good thing since you understand you have a problem. The sooner you can find another positive, constructive distraction the better. I know this from personal experience from watching some of my family let alcohol control their lives, with grievous results. |
