Ok this may sound silly but I'm serious!

I've used a Windows based PC all my life, so I'm well seasoned and prepared to the dangers of porn. My set up is using a firewall, an antivirus, sandboxie (check it out, a good little piece of software) and of course good common sense. However, I've decided to get a Mac and use that as my primary computer (work reasons).

I've never used one before but I'm sure it'll be easy to pick up. Now my question to Mac users, is there an equivalent to sandboxie? What do you have as a set up? What things do you look out for (that a converter from PC might not notice)? Does spyware and stuff build up and slow down your computer?

I've heard of Bootcamp where I will be able to use Windows, which I invariably will need to do so. The idea of just using Windows to surf (plus my set up) porn is an option I suppose but I would like to know first hand from a Mac user.

Thanks for any replies and advice!

I have a mac, I use firefox browser to visit the porn sites, I have yet to use any virus software, I have not noticed any problems. I have been using a mac for about 3 years.

Most viruses are made to go after Pc's.

I'm a Mac, and I must remind you not to worry. Mac's are about 10% of the computer market, while PC's complete the other 90%. To be honest, while viruses that attack Mac's exist, the chances of encountering one in the wild is slim to none. I've been using a Mac for almost 5 years and I've never encountered a virus of ANY kind. The simple answer? Don't worry, you won't find one.

If you have anti-spyware, program or anti-mailware program you won't have any problems. Compared to a PC spyware doesn't effect a Mac as much, simply because the spyware is again developed to attach to a Windows OS. Not a Mac's OSX. The same goes for viruses, just in case, use an anti-virus program and you won't have any problems.

I can only repeat what's already been said. I use a Mac and a PC and used the Mac only for browsing for about 9 months. I never had any problems with it.

You may like to know that there is a thread here with some details on Mac applications you might find useful:

Wow thanks guys! Those were the kind of replies I was looking for.

Of course I'll stay on the safe side and use an anti virus/malware. How about firewall? On my pc I use AVG (anti virus) and Commodo (firewall). What do you recommend?

Prosperox, nice thread, I love the preview pictures you've made, the girls are nice haha.

One more thing I've noticed, the search button (in the top right) is very useful and fast..but it'll expose anything porno vids I'll have on my HD if they know what to search LOL. Is there a way to not allowed certain files to be searched or password protect them in Snow Leopard?

I know I might sound a bit fussy and paranoid but I might as well ask!

Cheers guys.

My O/S is Tiger and I don't think you can stop files being located by search with that. I can't say that I've tried though.

you really don't need to worry about these issues on your mac! you are still in a PC frame of mind! I recommend Safari "private browsing" or google chrome "incognito" mode if your porn surfing needs to be private.

I also use Renamer4Mac to organize jpegs.

Got a mac recently, my uncle recommended me 'Little Snitch'. You need to give permission for anything that wants to make a connection with your mac.

But like most ppl said, you dont have to worry much.
