Probably playing Leeds, Charlton etc is more of a challenge than Dunfermeline and Dundee! Maybe it would make the Scottish league more of a competition if it were split into 2 divisions? Without Celtic or Rangers, any one of about 6 teams could win it.

If they got rid of relegation in the English Premier League, about 14 clubs would have nothing to play for each year!

It would have been two tiered so i think the top 10 teams would be in a league and the bottom 10 in a seerate league... not sure tbh!!

It was an idea by Gartside who is Bolton chairman and for me he was trying to look after his own team with the no relegation nonsense! It just wouldn't be football!

England v Brazil today Cool

Also the world cup qualifiers, i hope Ireland shock France.

Good luck to Russia too Wink

There was never any way that the big clubs would give up 4 games a season worth of revenues to add some scottish teams to the league.

That, and think of how insane the crowds would be. It wouldn't be Rangers v. Fulham, it'd be England v. Scotland for every game they play....

I saw the game. A real shame how France won the match. No offense to my french fellows here but Ireland deserved to win and to go to the world cup.

Anyways the premier league today rejected a two tier league proposal that would have bought rangers and Celtic to the Premier League.

I was surprised about that. I read that the Premier League's main source of income is selling overseas television rights and they felt Celtic and Rangers wouldn't add to that demand. But you would think it Celtic's involvement would bring more revenue from North America (from ex Irish people) and surely more people would want to watch Rangers V Spurs than Bolton V Spurs.

I think the smaller clubs didn't want Rangers and Celtic as it would mean 2 less places in the top league for which them to get in.

Football is so much about money these days Sad

I recall reading somewhere a few years ago that, in terms of a worldwide fanbase, Celtic are second only to Man U. Rangers also have a huge number of expat fans around the world. So I would have thought they would bring in even more television revenues. However, I don't think this should justify them being invited to join the EPL.

Say they join the EPL, you don't really think they'll challenge to win, do you? They'll be middle of the table at best and then some really shitty team will make the CL from Scotland instead of a decent team like Rangers or Celtic.

Agreed.

There current squads are nowhere near good enough to compete at the top end of the PL. Yes they will bring a great fanbase and atmosphere to games but if they want to play in the PL they should start at the very bottom like everyone else..!

So glad the PL is back this weekend..!

Liverpool have Citeh, dreading it! We really need 3 points or Rafa could be the first Liverpool manager sacked mid-season!

I just heard there's a possibility of playing the game again. I guess that's fair and i can't remember something like that happening before.
PS. Sorry for highjacking this thread. Is it to soon to star a world cup thread?

I think there should be a replay. Henry said it is the referee's responsibility to see the handball, but it is Henry's responsibility not to cheat. The first handball may have been involuntary but the second was to control the ball. Henry should have told the ref straight after he did it and the the ref could have awarded an Irish free kick.

I think the reason why Richard Dunne didn't criticise Henry after the match was that Ireland's players would have done the same thing. All footballers blame the ref instead of taking responsibility for their own actions.

Anyways back to the premier league, here are tomorrows fixtures:

early kick off:

Liverpool v Man City

3pm:

Birmingham v Fulham
Burnley v Aston Villa
Chelsea v Wolverhampton
Hull v West Ham
Sunderland v Arsenal

late kick off:

Man U v Everton

Some interesting match ups there. Not sure how the lpool game will go but i hope my beloved reds will win! Chelsea should win comftably. I think Arsenal may struggle without Van Persie! But i still think they'll win. Man U should beat Everton at home.

I might stick a few quid on the 'big 4' winning tomorrow!

Todays results:

Liverpool 2 - 2 Man City
Birmingham 1 - 0 Fulham
Burnley 1 - 1 Aston Villa
Chelsea 4 - 0 Wolverhampton
Hull 3 - 3 West Ham
Sunderland 1 - 0 Arsenal
Man Utd 3 - 0 Everton

Liverpool were shite again Twisted Evil
Suprised with the Sunderland result, i've not seen the game so not sure if it was a fair result but i would have thought Arsenal would have dominated even without Van Persie.
Man U are winning easily Twisted Evil

The Hull game seems to be the most entertaining, can't wait to see the highlights on match of the day!
