BDSM Gear: Leather vs. Silicone – What’s Your Preference?

When it comes to BDSM gear, I’ve seen people have really strong preferences between leather and silicone/faux materials.

I personally love the feel of real leather restraints, but I get that vegan alternatives are becoming really popular too. And when it comes to things like paddles or gags, I’ve noticed silicone is much easier to clean.

What do you all prefer and why? Is there a specific reason you stick to one over the other? Would love to hear opinions from both sides!

Honestly, it depends on the mood and the type of session. Leather has that raw, primal vibe — the smell, the texture, even the sound of it when it tightens just hits differently. There’s a psychological edge to it that silicone can't really replace.

That said, silicone gear is super practical, especially for messy play or scenes that involve a lot of fluid. It's also softer on the skin during longer sessions and way easier to clean afterward.

I’ve got both in my collection and I mix them depending on the play partner and intensity. But if I had to choose purely on feeling? Leather wins for the sensuality and presence it brings into the room.
