Does anyone here use P2P for music downloads?
I used to use WinMx but I got tired of the slow connections and miss-named files. so I started looking around and found LimeWire it is a p2p as all the rest but it is the best I have ever come accross. it is faster and No Miss-named files and better music selections. I am useing a dial up connection and have seen my connection downloads at speeds of 9KBps as WinMx my connection would either timeout or would crawl at only 2Kbps .. check it out and here is the best thing .. it is all free you can download it here it is a fast download and even though it asks if you want to perchase LimeWire you do not have to. http://www.limewire.org/

get it download it.. oh and here is the best thing No Ip exchanges. No Screen Names. you can use any proxy it is very user friendly..

I use Limewire too...but mostly for finding porn. The biggest problem I have is that about half the time the files are nothing like what their name suggests. Which can be a little scary at times Shocked

I download from newsgroups. Only problem is the posts are relatively random or by request. But they are there for the grabbing Smile

E-Donkey fucking sucks. You will wait days for the one file you want. the concept is sound (downloading different parts at the same time until you have the full file), but unless you have a dedicated server, it is virtually useless. I use Kazaa Lite++; no spy-ware, billions of files, and no drag on my 'puter. If any of you would like it, oh hell I'll try to post it here. It's not like the version most use which bogs down your computer and takes up system resources. Kazaa is still king for finding anything. Oh yeah, if you haven't already, I suggest getting the Kazaa mega-codec. It's almost 20 MB, so I won't post it, but it's easily available after a Google search.

NM, it didn't let me post it.

I don't know what version of E-donkey you are using but everything I download comes in one file, unless it's a program that originally comes on more then 1 cd, then their's 1 file by cd.

It does take time to download sometimes but unless you're on dial-up (and I feel your pain if you are) it doesn't matter, just leave your computer on all the time. E-donkey is great for music programs, you can get almost anything and most files are good, although sometimes you'll get a RAR with a bunch of mp3's or porn. But that comes with the game of illegal downloading...

I haven't used Kazaa in a while because I couldn't find any decent programs...

I guess it all comes down to what you want to download. I don't download mp3's (cause they sound like shit) but for music programs I go for E-donkey and sometimes Bit Torrent (off the suprnova.org site) wich is also very good for TV shows.

I find E-Mule fine.

Yeah, it's slow, but I can live with that. I just turn it on at night when I go to bed and turn it off in the morning.

Works for what I've gotten from it so far...

Why not use newsgroups? They are one full file and generally have excellent sound quality. The ratio is like 30% 128BIT and 20% 256BIT and the rest are usually a mix of High-Varial Bit Rate or 160BIT.

Not bad. I have a few gig already (mainly collecting my 80's favorites.)

Even at 256BIT I still wouldn't consider and mp3 to have an excellent sound quality. Even a cd at 16bit 44.1khz isn't all that great compared to the sound of DVD at 24bit 48khz or 96khz. I wish people would start using better compression. Personnaly I can live without sound compression since I have no problem with actually buying cd's. But since people are going to download they should at least be able to download something with a better sound quality then mp3. I'm sure that they're are better algorithm's then mp3 by now, so you could have better sound quality for the same space. Also dial-up is slowly disappearing and people have started to RAR whole albums, so there is no reason why you couldn't download with better quality since the files can be downloaded faster then before.

Mp3 was good for the 90's when you were on dial-up and you downloaded one song at a time.

Broadband may be faster..

But mp3 players still only contain 256mb .. or maybe 512mb in the deluxe models. There's your market now. Not just kazaa leechers. People transferring there own albumns onto a portable device to take with them anywhere.

Yes the ipod has many gigs... but it's still comparitively bulky. And moving parts is bad for jogging.

I don't see any codec replacing mp3 as the mainstream compression technique any time soon.

But maybe one day.

mpegs converted to mp4 / divx in relatively short space of time for big gains in quality / compression. Who really knows what will take off.

hey for p2p needs you should try going to mIRC. it is great fo all your chat needs as well as p2p ing anything from porn to music to ebooks and movies. go to www.mirc.com get the latest one and instal it. then go to a place called www.packetnews.com, but be warned it does have a popup everytime you do a search there but a pop up blocker will take care of that. also look into using torrents and programs such as bit torrent and the like.

hi there, newbie here. For those who didn't notice, b4 you say that the link doesn't work for packetnews.com, it's just because the link "caught" the coma at the end of it. Here it is without the coma at the end : www.packetnews.com Wink
