Got a new rig and I copied my files to my friends external drive. I ended up deleting my personal files after I set up XP and copied them back, but I needed to reinstall XP and didn't back them up again.

So I tried 1 program, and it didn't show the folder I needed. Perhaps the folder and it's contents were too large because several smaller folders that were deleted were showing up. I am currently running a program called File Recover by PC Tools Software. Just in case this program doesn't work either, do you know a program I can use for free that will recover my file?

So that program basically game me a list of 11 deleted cabinet archives. I have no idea what those are & they can not be previewed. Can only recover by registering. They may not even be what I need, so I'm, not paying them a dime.

Next trial, Undelete Plus.

I confess, I never looked out for programs like that but....

...I always buy computer-magazines and there are many
free-progs within. For that, that they're free they do a
good job. Wink
The only problem was that the recovered files had strange
names (not the ones they had before I deleted them) like
15fg75h.jpg or some other strange names. Rolling Eyes
The other problem is that they can take HOURS to revover
files that you can't use anymore. On a 400GB HD you might
have to wait a day. Sad

I would not pay one cent for a recover program because
they do the same as the free ones.

Idea What's important?
Arrow If you realized that you deleted a file what was
a mistake, don't do ANYTHING and turn your
computer off until you get a recover-programm.
Otherwise the files can't be recovered.
Arrow Don't do a defrag-job and if you erased your
files with a data-shredder you might be not able
to recover your files again.

I can't really tell you which program is the best
because the progs I use are in my native language
and meaningless for you.

I hope that you will find a needfull program
via google, deity. Rolling Eyes

Just type "file recovery+free" or
"undelete+free" in google and I
guess there will be hundreds of them.
Some of them will just suck, and some
of them are needfull.

I'm not a 'pro' regarding 'file-recovering'
but I'll ask some friends of mine if they
know a clue.
Might be next week and I'll post what they
said.

Good luck, deity. Rolling Eyes

If your looking for something free I don't know which program that is, but I recently had a need to recover post-recycle-bin files and used a program called 'Power*Data*Recovery" (No *'s) and was very satisfied. I tried to not dl too much additional stuff for fear of overwriting.

I can't say this proggy is better than this or that because its the only one I've used for this kind of problem.

It scans your HD & lists what you may want to recover, at a pricetag of $50 bucks though... the trial version doesn't to diddly-squat, only allows you to recover files that are under an unfair size limit. JPG's usually don't meet up, very sad.

If your lost data is worth it, this little program will probably work.

All the free programs I have tried have limits on what they will recover. They all require the full version which has to be paid for.
