I am getting terrible download speed through bit/u torrent. I have followed instruction for port forwarding on my Westell Versalink 327W

http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Westell/Versalink327W/Utorrent.htm

Everything goes fine until the last step when I click enable, I get another box asking about host http://star.walagata.com/w/gonzo69/untitled.JPG When I click OK, I get yet ANOTHER box asking Host Device or IP Address. What do I put in this box? http://star.walagata.com/w/gonzo69/untitled2.JPG

Any help AT ALL would be greatly appreciated. If you need any further information...please ask me Smile

Try putting your personal IP address in the box, you are the host

I have only downloaded a few dozen torrents in my time, but in my experience the download speed is always REALLY slow. That's just part of the deal because you are dependent on connections to multiple seeders.

Actually that is not true at all. All the torrents I downloads are 100 kb/sec or faster. You just have to set your firewall accordingly

Maybe that's my problem then. I use the free version of ZA, which has almost no capacity for the user to make adjustments, as I have discovered when trying to deal with other issues. Sad

Switch to BitComet, it works great and I download everything for free.

not sure if you are still looking for advice on t0rrents. i don't really use them much (mule is my cup of tea). but from my experience, you have to let it run for an hour or so before it finds all the seeders/leachers. at which point you start getting pretty good speeds depending on your connection. try ut0rrent

i find p-to-p programs are good for dling dvd is0s cause they are 4-6 gigs, and rapidshare for everything else

For me is uTorrent the best.
But with Zone Alarm (I used that) is ther some tricks.
You must read uTorrent help letter by letter when you is doing the set up
in preferenses.
See uTorrent Preferenses - connections
Choose a fixed port between 61000 and 65000. (must not be in use by other programs)(By ZA you must use a fixed (not random) port )
Uncheck randomnize port
You must also know if your internet provider is using UPnP and NAT port mapping.
In Zone Alarm use medium security.

But first read uTorrent help on net.

You cant test your internetspeed here http://www.speedtest.net
