Phishing & Spamming

There are lots of phishing and spamming going on and something should be done about this problem. Is it possible to change the userrules so you fx must have +10 replys/quote before you can start a new/own thread? If this is possible I think the phishing and spamming should stop or atleast be a much smaller problem than today.

Hello, Boxcaren. It seems to me that the spammers probably register here using bots and their bots are probably set to not post for a week or two, so as to get around any existing 'new member posting limitations' such as some forums use, a means such as you suggest.

In addition, if unable to start a new thread, the spammers would hide their garbage in other peoples` threads such as they used to do, making it somewhat more difficult for we the staffers to locate and delete their spam/trojan posts etc.

Incidentally, you yourself often point out the spammy and trojanized posts as soon as they are posted to the forum, Boxcaren, and we staffers appreciate the efforts of members such as yourself in identifying and reporting their ill-intentioned posts.

I feel like a broken record, but like I have said numerous times, the ONLY fix is a "welcome" section with a minimum post limit.

Allow any registered member to post in the welcome section and leave the rest of the board hidden. Then put a "post requirement" to see the rest of the board.

Example: 25 minimum posts, with at least 10 of content.

I have suggested this at least 5 times, I have even offered to Mod the welcome section and give acceptable new members access. It sems I just keep getting the brush off.

If the problem is bots then why not use a character recognition system for registration? They're a bit of a pain, but they're a lot better than dealing with spambots.
