The Avira AntiVir Rescue System a linux-based application that allows accessing computers that cannot be booted anymore. Thus it is possible to repair a damaged system, to rescue data or to scan the system for virus infections. Just double-click on the rescue system package to burn it to a CD/DVD with Nero or Ultraiso or others. You can then use this CD/DVD to boot your computer. The Avira AntiVir Rescue System is updated several times a day so that the most recent security updates are always available.

Usage

To start Avira AntiVir Rescue System insert the CD/DVD in your CD/DVD-ROM device and reboot the computer. Avira AntiVir Rescue System is starting the bootmanager now.

After Booting, you see the bootmanager-menu. You then can choose either booting from local hard disc or booting the Avira AntiVir Rescue System from CD/DVD-ROM. Press key '2' to choose "boot into AntiVir Rescue System" and confirm with 'enter'. Now the Avira AntiVir Rescue System is starting.

Next Step is to choose your prefered language. Your choices are English and German. Use 'key up' or 'key down' to navigate in the menu. Take the choice by pressing 'space bar' and confirm with 'enter'. The Rescue System boot process is proceeding. This can take some minutes.
When Avira AntiVir Rescue System is up, a graphical menu is displayed. For navigation in menu use 'key up' and 'key down'.

Confirm with 'enter'. The Menue offers you the following choices:

* readme: In this menu a readme document is available. Here you can find information about usage of Avira AntiVir Rescue System.
* scan: This will initialize a full (this includes all mounted filesystems) system scan. Be aware that this may take a while.
* log: Shows the results of the last scan. Logfile is saved as /tmp/avlogfile.
* savelog: Save the logfile on hard disk or floppy disk.
* update: Choosing this option provides the opportunity to update your AntiVir files. Updates can be downloaded from: http://dl.antivir.de/down/vdf/rescue_update.zip. You can either burn the rescue_update.zip file on a CD/DVD-ROM or copy rescue_update.zip into the existing filesystem on your hard disk.
* open: Brings up a linux console with limited instruction set.
* halt: Shutdown the computer.
