I've always been concerned about that site since I heard it started collecting uploaders' details. Now it sounds as if my fears were justified.

that does not give desire to upload anymore Confused , terrifying, but I need more evidences to deffenitly banned rs.

However this is shooting themselves in the foot to make hunting for the uploaders, rs will lose half of its subscribers this year if this history is true.

Of course Rapidshare logs uploader's details, it always has. Any website logs IP addresses, Forumophilia does too. The thing is RS always maintained they would never share those IP addresses with anyone... except maybe if they were **** by the law? Confused

The details are still murky on this one. I find it strange that some guy sharing copyrighted stuff would lead to his house being raided. That's really not something you would expect in Europe and even for the US it seems a bit excessive. I'll wait out on any followup.

Use a fake Yahoo or Hotmail address that you won't use for anything else.
Then find an unsecured wireless network somewhere. Usually you don't have to look very far to find one. Most people don't put a password on theirs...

RS.de and RS.com are different sites, I think the case applies to .de

Before you run away screaming you have to consider that Rapidshare had no choice in handing over the information, since the demand was backed by a court order.

I would also add that 'before you run away screaming you have to consider' that the only links I have seen about this are posts on blogs.

I'm not saying this is a negative marketing scheme by RS competitors, but the links included in posts about this here and on other boards seem fairly circular, pointing back and forth to a limited number of "sources" that are not actual news outlets.

Have any German members seen real news stories about this in legitimate media over there?

If I am a competitor of a company with the largest market share in a particular service, and I also know that there are large numbers of disgruntled people out there that bitch, moan and complain endlessly about that largest company, then it is a pretty easy thing to throw up a few blogs that are sure to get a frenzy of new threads started, all slamming the big company and opening up the market for me...
