I have some records still - maybe 100. unlike many other folks, I think modern CD's and MP3's (if large sampling rate / large file size) work great.

I keep the old records more because alot of them are maybe hard to get in CD form or at all

Hi ,

i´ve just about 300 LP´s - list starts with AC/DC and ends with ZZ Top , about 100 LP´s as OST and nearly 50 classicals only a few singles .
My favorite Shop told me , they can get 80% of actual music on Vinyl ... and not only gatherer are ordering them .
My Problem is - most CD´s are to loud , they are 120% recordered because some studios thinking it´s good and some covering burning mistakes - with an good equipment you´ll hear it - without an good equipment you won´t need CD´s !
Most time i bought an new CD i also tried to get it on vinyl - because gathering .

I have 5 full peach crates and play them on my 100 watts per channel Pioneer and Akai turntable. Believe me, you dont get sound like that out of any CD.

Being an old timer - and having been brought up when the gramaphone was invented I have 500± mint condition 33's with art cover sleeves.

Oh and a few 45's say 50 of those - my pride and joy being "Don't fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult and 'Echo Beach' by Martha and the Muffins. Jings.

Better quality sound as well IMHO and with the right gear - Naim Power amp/additional power boost unit, Logic arm on Linn Sondek turntable and a Grado G2 moving magnet Cartridge - to play them on finally B&W DM14's Mark 1. Downside is getting out of my comfy chair and turning the thing over.

Still have 78's from my Grandfather in an attic somewhere - about 100 of those - gathering dust.

Ah - the good old days - when flares were worn and platform shoes - aaarrggghhh.

LOl, B

PS My friend Stuart - has over 5000 - but he's a DJ - mixer - so he doesn't count.

I stopped counting a while ago., but I have four bookcases full of vinyl, shelved spine out, and about six more peach crates full waiting for me to purchase another bookcase.
I look for unusual recordings, exotic percussion, space-age bachelor pad stuff, general "cool and strange" stuff.
Most of my collection has been acquired thru thrift shop digging, or by bidding on crates of records at auctions. I might spend ten to twenty bucks to win a box of 50 or so albums, just because there are one or two interesting records in the lot.

what started me on my current phase was the discovery in a thrift store of a record called "How to Buy Meat". here's the CD booklet I made from the cover art when I converted it to MP3 format.

I used to have a blog where I shared MP3rips of my weirder records. I still have a lot of those albums zipped in my hard drive. With the proper encouragement, I might re-up them.

I did a test post of a few music files here:

Around a thousand.

There are some CD releases of albums made before the age of digital recording that got horribly mangled by the engineers responsible. I bought a cd of Sgt. Peppers last year and it sounds truly fucking horrid!

I play vinyl (on great kit) every so often and, given that it was well engineered in the first place, always love the sound.

here's a mix CD I put together out of my collection of weird vinyl a couple years ago. it mixes spoken word religious claptrap with songs about monkeys and stuff. Inspired by the Intelligent Design lawsuits.

I also have about 2,000 albums of all types of music, but mostly good old Rock 'n Roll. Ancient stuff - yea, sure any record is ancient - and some of the last stuff widely available on vinyl. I love the sound from the record and of course there is a huge list that they never got around to converting to CD. Also, so much of the old stuff was combined on those damn "Best of" CDs and they ALWAYS forgot that 2nd to last song on the B side that I loved the most - dammit! I have a great turntable too & listen to them now & then!

One crazy thing about those albums is when you would get that one spot that had the scratch - you know, the one you loaned to your best buddy who got stoned and scratched it. My "Rush - Fly by Night" album had such a scratch and to this day whenever I hear "Making Memories" whether on a CD or the radio, I still hear that damn "tick... tick..." in that spot of the song. Gotta love 'em!

PS: Yes, I also have 8-tracks that still work and even an 8-track recorder. Hey, if anyone can find a blank tape I'd be happy to bump down your fav CD to 8-track. lol

There is a German label called Blue Rose that is putting a lot of their artists (mostly US roots rock kind of bands) out on vinyl now and offering a deal to put your own custom playlists of their music on vinyl too. You can search for their website yourself, it shouldn't be too hard to find.

I've got about 2000 LP's, EP's and singles about 500 of them bought in the last couple of years. Most of those are singles and Ep's with Trance music (I still do some Dj'ing from time to time) but i've also started to buy my "everyday" music on vinyl it just sounds so much better on my Technics SL-1200 Mk2. I just got Diana Krall's Quiet Nights on vinyl from amazon and the sound is so much fuller than the same album in a Flac rip I downloaded. Could offcourse be the rippers fault but I don't think so - For example The Ting Ting's "We Started Nothing" sounded metallic and hollow on cd but on vinyl the sound was just extremely good. Ok the music was just too repetitive so it's not really an album I listen to anymore but that doesn't detract from the sound quality.
