their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83,I think they really came into their own, commercial and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consimante professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humour.

There's no doubt the Sports Album lauched them into one of the best bands during the 80's.

One thing I liked about them is they never took themselves seriously. When they made it to number one in the charts, they knew there was only one place to go from there and that was back down the charts. They never let that affect them, where so many other bands just disappeared after hitting the top spot.

He clearly has a distinct sound, and that's one of the other things I've liked about them. I was never a fan of Elvis Costello though.

Huey Lewis was fun and entertaining. Pity he couldn't sing very well, or doing anything in any key other than 4/4. Elvis Costello was a gifted songwriter, and very talented. If only had could have sung with his nose open.

At least you didn't include Robert Palmer, Wham, Prince, or the Hooters. Thanks for reminding me how much I "mostly" hated the 80's.
