I think #3 is a song called Joyride, but I can't remember the name of the group and I'm not really sure.

Can't add any more. Ozzy and Schmaxas got the ones I knew fer shur. And I didn't know the Abba, because unlike Gnome, I've never been a Dancin' Queen!

However, I do remember listening to the Carpenters, Barry Manilow, and Kenny Rogers when I was quite young. Embarassed

Puff who?

RM

p.s. not one of Bob Seger's best songs. I like Against the Wind, or, OF COURSE, this one! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Ramblin' Gamblin' Man

Yeah, I'm gonna tell my tale come on,
Come on, give a listen

Cause I was born lonely down by the riverside
Learned to spin fortune wheels, and throw dice
And I was just thir.teen when I had to leave home
Knew I couldn't stick around, I had to roam
Ain't good looking, but you know I ain't shy
Ain't afraid to look a girl, in the eye
So if you need some lovin, and you need it right away
Take a little time out, and maybe I'll stay

But I got to ramble (ramblin' man)
Oh I got to gamble (gamblin' man)
Got to got to ramble (ramblin' man)
I was born a ramblin' gamblin' man

Yeah yeah yeah
Yeah alright here we go now now
I hope you got money, I'm sure gonna need some
I ain't around to love you now, and I gotta run
Gotta keep moving, never gonna slow down
You can have your funky world, see you 'round

But I got to ramble (ramblin' man)
Oh I got to gamble (gamblin' man)
Got to got to ramble (ramblin' man)
I was born a ramblin' gamblin' man

As they say in India, "you wish is my command". (Its "you" on purpose, they actually say that there, stop editing my posts Braxy!*)

I was so happy to hear aboot that Canuck Abraxas becoming a Mod, I schlepped up a few sets to celebrate America's wonderful northern neighbor. Didn't know about Svinto at the time, so this is just for Canada, eh?

So here's the first Canadian set. Set 1 is easier than sets 2 or 3, so get 'em while they're hot (and SD, don't take all of them). Who knows, maybe Elmo, Photo1, and Ubi will even poke their snouts in for this one, that'd be cool, eh? Now I'm going to get a beer.

1.
The winter here's cold, and bitter, it's chilled us to the bone
I haven't seen the sun for weeks, too long too far from home
I feel just like I'm sinking, and I claw for solid ground
I'm pulled down by the undertow
I never thought I could feel so low
Oh....darkness I feel like letting go

2.
Hide your heart under the bed and lock your secret drawer.
Wash the angels from your head won't need them anymore.
Love is a demon and you're the one he's coming for.

3.
If it were easy as fishin', you could be a musician
If you could make sounds loud or mellow
Get a second-hand guitar, chances are you'll go far
If you get in with the right bunch of fellows

4.
Jocko says yes and I believe him, when we talk about the things I say
She hasn't got the faith or the guts to leave him, when they're standin' in each other's way
You're driven back now to places you've been to, you're wonderin' what you're gonna find
You know you've been wrong but it won't be long, before you leave 'em all far behind

5.
Goodbye Papa please pray for me
I was the black sheep of the family
You tried to teach me right from wrong
Too much wine and too much song
Wonder how I got along.

6.
Maybe a great magnet pulls, all souls towards truth
Or maybe it is life itself
That feeds wisdom, to its youth

7.
You are just a dreamer, and I am just a dream.
You could have been anyone to me.
Before that moment you touched my lips
That perfect feeling when time just slips
Away between us on our foggy trip.

8.
This is where we used to live.
Why did you keep the mousetrap?
why did you keep the dish-rack?
These things used to be mine.
I guess they still are, I want 'em back.

9.
Last night I held Aladdin's lamp, and so I wished that I could stay
Before the thing could answer me
Well, someone came and took the lamp away
I looked around, a lousy candle's all I found

10.
And the sign said, "Everybody welcome. Come in. Kneel down and pray."
But when they passed around the plate at the end of it all, I didn't have a penny to pay
So I got me a pen and a paper, and I made up my own little sign.
I said, "Thank you, Lord, for thinkin' 'bout me. I'm alive and doin' fine."

O Canada. We stand on guard for thee. Wink

Hey, Ozz, me thinks #9 is Magic Carpet Ride by...oh, damn! I forgot the name...you know, the band that does The Pusher... Steppenwolf! Damn, my head is slippin'! Reminds me of the banter at the end of the song Cocaine by Jackson Browne - "Gotta take either more of it or less of it - I can't quite figure it out..."
"Well I'll ya what it takes - it takes a cleeeeeeeeear mind...!"
"You mean it takes a clear mind to take it, or not to take it..?"
"It takes a cleeeear mind TO MAKE IT!"

Damn good so far. Any takers on numbers 2 and 6 before I close this one out and start the next one? C'mon, they're both what I'd call "Chick-rock". Sorta.

Sir Darkstar Mr. Senior Moderator Sir? I figure you probably know #6 at least, which is a great ferkin' song (and one I bet Gnome knows all about). #2 was kinda the stumper for this set, not sure she made it down to Oz. Embarassed

Should never have presumed that I could get one past you SD. Where's that crow, I'm hungry.

Okay, let's wrap up that first Canadian set:

1. Sarah McLachlan (from Halifax, NS) – Full of Grace: Ozzy1234
She is one of my top 5 favorite solo artists. If she hadn't married her drummer, I would have been in like Flynn. Sad

2. Jann Arden (from Calgary) – Could I be your girl: Sir Darkstar

3. BTO – Taking Care of Business: Abraxas (his new mod motto)
Little known fact: Randy Bachman, after quitting the Guess Who, first tried to form a band with Keith Emerson of ELP fame. We could have had, errr, BET, or BETLPO, or hmmm.

4. Guess Who – No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature: Brax-Man

5. Terry Jacks – Season in the Sun: We had joy, we had fun, we had Braxy in the sun

6. K. D. Lang – Constant Craving: Mr. Senior Moderator Sir soon to be the first one with 4K posts Darkstar
SD apparently doesn't go for the "androgynous" look. Rolling Eyes

7. Neil Young – Like a Hurricane: Ozzy1234
Another one of my top 5 all-time favorite artists. SD has Bob Dylan, and I have Neil Young. There is, and only ever shall be, one Neil Young.

8. Barenaked Ladies – Old Apartment: ½ Ozzy1234, ½ Abraxas

9. Steppenwolf (2 out of 5 were Canadian) – Magic Carpet Ride: Gnomus Erectus Maximus
Led by John Kay -- born Joachim Fritz Krauledat, German immigrant to Canada. This band is underrated for their influence on hard rock in the late 1960s, and what was to become "heavy metal", IMRO.

10. Five Man Electrical Band – Signs: Abraxaxaxaxas
Another one-hit wonder. Band's from what used to be the best Canadian city for Music -- Ottawa.

Good job Gentlemen. Top notch, top notch!

Hey, I get a chance to do one, nobody`s looking!

Okay, 10 songs for the weekend. If you dont guess `em by Sunday night, you`re banned. All of you! And no googlin`.

1 ) [I pasted different lyrics than I had here at first, to make it easier to recognize song number 1]

Fuck all that we've got to get on with these
got to compete with the wily japanese
No need to worry about the vietnamese
got to bring the russian bear to his knees
well, maybe not the russian bear
maybe the swedes.

2)
Whatever makes you happy
Whatever you want
You're so fucking special
I wish I was special

3)
This is fucked up, fucked up
You are fucked up, fucked up
This is fucked up, fucked up

4)
You ain't gotta say too much
From the look in your eyes
I can tell you want to fuck
And you ain't gotta call me ya boo
Just as bad as you wanna fuck
I wanna fuck too

5)
Fuck what i said it dont mean shit now
Fuck the presents might as well throw em out
Fuck all those kisses it didnt mean jack
Fuck you, you hoe, i dont want you back

6)
Fuck the pain away. Fuck the pain away.
Fuck the pain away. Fuck the pain away.
Fuck the pain away. Fuck the pain away.
Fuck the pain away. Fuck the pain away.

7)
Fuck a needle, here's a sword, bodypierce with this
Livin amuk, never givin a fuck
Gimme the keys I'm drunk, and I've never driven a truck
But I smoke dope in a cab
I'll stab you with the sharpest knife I can grab

8)
I'm hustlin' enough, to know better,
But ballin' enough to not give a fuck,
And I'm old enough, to know better,
But young enough to not give a fuck

9)
And then I'm gonna love you completely
And then I'll fuckin fuck you discreetly
And then I'll fucking bone you completely
But then I'm gonna fuck you hard

10)
It's fuck and run, fuck and run
Even when I was seven.teen
Fuck and run, fuck and run
Even when I was twelve.

Heh, I know exactly what you mean about JB's rambling at the end of Cocaine on Running on Empty. It was probably because in the days they recorded it, that would have been on Vinyl, and Cocaine was the last song on the first side. I remember hearing similar nonsensical rambles on the end of other sides on vinyl albums, but can't think of a good example right this moment.

Esteemed Gnome, did you know that that "Pusher" song was actually written by an old folk/country singer (also actor) named Hoyt Axton? Steppenwolf's version was a cover, but infinitely more famous as it was on the Easy Rider soundtrack. Search online at Amazon or BarnesNoble if you'd like to hear snippets of his original version, its likely on some sort of greatest hits compilation.

You know I smoked a lot of grass, oh lord I popped a lot of pills
But I never touched nothin that my spirit could kill
You know I've seen a lot of people walking around with tombstones in their eyes
But the pusher don't care, ah, if you live or if you die
God damn hmm the pusher
god damn hey I say the pusher
I say god damn god damn the pusherman

You know the dealer, the dealer is a man, with a lot of grass in his hand
Ah but the pusher is a monster, good god he's not a natural man
The dealer, for a nickel lord, he'll sell you lots of sweet dreams
Ah but the pusher'llruin your body, lord he'll leave... he'll leave your mind to scream
god damn ahh the pusher.
god damn,god damn the pusher.
I said god damn god , god damn the pusherman

Well lord if I were the president of this land you know I'd declare total war on the pusherman
I'd cut him if he stands and I shoot him if he'd run and
I'd kill him with my bible and my razor and my gun
god damn aww the pusher.
god damn... the pusher.
I said god damn , god damn the pusherman!
