That kind of happened to us. My parents could never call my brother or me because we were always on the net. We finally got them a webtv so they could email us.

Nice! I'd get disconnected when calls would come in. It was sooo frustrating.

i suppose the fax machine way back in the 60s was the first inkling.. they were transmitting text along the phone lines but that was probably analogue

It must have been the invention of digital
and sending small packets that really made
the web possible
they had text, then they had pics ... so everything
was in place

those phone lines had been in place for 100 years
but we d hardly used them in all that time

The internet is delivering the goods big time
but it must be hitting the printers
mag and newspaper sales

Newsprint is hurting big time. Several major newspapers have gone bankrupt (tribune, phil. inquirer etc)

I remember when jpg was so revolutionary. No more downloading gifs, bmps. Even worse, I remember having 5 second video clips with crappy green interference because my drivers were not right... man those were the days.

Yeah - 5 seconds clips that took half an hour to download!

Those were the days.
(probably still got some of those somewhere...)

Did anyone else start out on a dial-up modem where
to download one picture took around ten seconds?

A five minute porn vide used to take me an hour on 3.4 kb/sec.

Thank God for broadland....and bring on Fiber-optics!
