ramblin'man...

ok... there are a few teknacalaities here which i did not know of... the reason is... this list is comprised of my dad's first 10 tunes loaded into his iPod... (he's mid-50's... yet way a way cool dad...) hence, the oldies, i only know from his recordings...

#1 is "Come On" by Chuck Berry, as recorded by him... c. 1961?

#5 is "Let It Be Me" done originally by The Everyly Bros.

#7 is "Thank You" done by Dido... yes, it is chick-rock, but it is the first ever tune that i taught to my dad... so he cherishes it..

#9 is "All The Things You Are" but I thought Ella Fitzgerald was the only one that recorded it... it's all i have ever known... but you win on a teknacalatie there...

good work!!! ...go to the head of the class and take a big bow...

Real Media??? Question

Only after Juliegirl Ma'am's set is finished. I might be able to pull a set out of my ... ear by then. But I warn you, Sir Darkstar, there will be no Dylan. And no big-hair 80's fake metal groups. And any Fleetwood Mac song will be sung by Christine McVie. And I know nothing by the Hunters and Collectors, as well as Hillary Duff.

Hmmm. I'm feeling happy and gay, so maybe another themed set .....

Ragin'Man

p.s. nice of Oobooloo to show his face in this thread. Wink

Technicalities Schmeknicalities ... Czechnicalities. Very Happy I thought #10 was written by Elvis Presley, but Hank Williams is older, so I'm guessing he wrote it, wow. Johnny Cash version is pretty good, though way before my time.

Speaking of which ... I am the king of segues, after all ... Rolling Eyes ... I'm hurting on the Donovan thing, missed that one as well as in Esty's. I'm familiar with the Roy Orbison version of "I drove all night", didn't know Cyndi LAWpeh did it too. Oy.

Anyway I'm sure Darkstar knew 2 or 3 of those un-guessed ones, not sure why he didn't chime in. Especially the Cyndi Lauper, since he loves the 80's so much. Too busy moderatin' this place, I reckon.

Thanks, and stay tuned ...

Hey Julie can't believe I didn't get that Donovan one you had in there. D'Oh!!! I must have listened to Hurdy Gurdy Man a couple of hundred times by now.

BTW one song that really sounds good with the volume up loud is (Goo Goo) Barabajagal. I hadn't listened to it in ages and then a couple of months ago I was in a music shop and they had it playing very loudly. I had to put my Donovan cd back in my car after that.

O.k. we are waaiittiing on "amblin'man" Rolling Eyes Very Happy I am sure he will get here eventually. Smile

Hah! Cool Not surprised you thought I'd go for the chick-rock theme, Darkity-Dark. Good, I like being unpredictable. Anyway Sarah McLachlan shall wait ......

How about some one-hit wonders from the early 70s? (1970 - 1974)? These were all OHWs in the USA, not sure about other countries though. But certainly staples on every "Classic Rock" radio station in the land, as well as various movies, TV commercials, covers etc. In other words, even you youngsters out there probably know them, k?

And for those of you that used to own an 8-track player (or run a music forum), no fair grabbin' all 10 at once! Razz

1.
World polution, there's no solution, institution, electrocution,
Just black and white, rich or poor, them and us,
We'll stop the war

2.
We left San Pedro late one night, the moon and the stars were shinin' bright.
We drivin' up G****vine Hill, passin' cars like they were standin' still.

3.
I hope you all know what I'm talkin' about
The way they wiggle that thing really knocks me out
Gettin' high all the time hope you all are too
Come on little pussy gonna do it to you

4.
I been away a country mile, now I'm returnin' showin' off a smile
I met all the girls and loved myself a few
Ended by surprise like everything else I've been through
It opened up my eyes and now I'm...

5.
I said, "Hey, what's your name baby? Maybe we can see things the same.”
"Now don't you wait, or hesitate. Let's move before they raise the parking rate."

6.
Now, the valley cried with anger, "Mount your horses, draw your swords!"
And they killed the mountain people, so they won their just reward
Now, they stood beside the treasure on the mountain dark and red
Turned the stone and looked beneath it ... "Peace on Earth" was all it said

7.
Never been a sinner, never sinned
I've got a friend in Jesus

8.
And if they stare, just let them burn their eyes on you moving.
And if they shout, don't let them change a thing what you're doing.

9.
They were funky China men from funky Chinatown
They were chopping them up and they were chopping them down
It's an ancient Chinese art and everybody knew their part
From a feint into a slip, and kicking from the hip

10.
But no one heard them callin', no one came at all,
'Cause they were too busy watchin' those old raindrops fall.
As a storm was blowin', out on the peaceful sea,
Seventy-three men sailed off to history.

I have no idea if these are easy or difficult, and one or 2 might be repeats in this thread, oopsie. But I'd bet almost all of you know the songs ... but do you know the titles and artists? They ain't exactly household names.

Good luck.

WOW Shocked You guys are doing awesome with these. Shocked That is, assuming no googling of course. Evil or Very Mad

Only three left ... #s 1, 4, and 10. Thought #10 would be easier, as very few songs mention exactly "73 men". Embarassed

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Darkstar? Darkstar?
