Will David Bowies "Aladdin Sane" ever be forgotten, the epic anthems of Queen. The list could go on forever.
And don't forget us ELP fans for Tarkus, Brain Salad Surgery etc... and Very Heavy, Very Humble by Uriah Heep with the classic track Gypsy.
Whoa. Uriah Heep. Flashbacks galore. Whoa. <pause> Bob I think they were bigger in England than the US, almost a "one hit wonder" in the US with Gypsy in fact. Given their progressive (at the time) style I can see how they fit in with the other great bands you mention. Deep Purple -- yeah baby yeah. Pre-Rainbow Ritchie Blackmore ... and I've always been a big Ian Gillen fan, he was a much better Jesus (Jesus Christ Superstar) than Ted Neeley IMRO. And of course I grew up on Sabbath, LZ, PF, ELP, etc. Perhaps bands like Blue Oyster Cult and Yes appeared on your turn-table as well my friend? Or was it an 8-track?
I agree with you on the 80s, except for perhaps a double handful of bands/artists. But ... I started paying more attention with the very beginning of the 90s and the whole "Madchester" guitar rock thing. Then Grunge and Nirvana and Pearljam and STP came along and pulled me back, yadda yadda yadda and I loved the 90s as I mentioned before. There might be some things you'd like if you haven't heard them before, e.g. the group "Live" was probably not very popular in the UK, and that album I mentioned up there is simply mind-boggling.
Its interesting, because SD and I are the same age but he loves the 80s the best if I remember correctly.
Speaking of which ... lest he think I'm drifting his thread again and whips out his scythe ... the latest set.

Yikes. Great Horny Toads. SD is pulling out the big guns now, I can only add a couple.
#1. Sir Paul and the Wings -- Medicine Jar
#5. Traveling Wilburys -- Congratulations. Not sure which one of them wrote the song (Orbison, Dylan, Petty, Harrison, blah blah blah).
#9. Lou Reed -- Ride Sally Ride (great song!).
For #6, it sounds like something
EVERY SINGLE GODDAMN US FLAG-WAVIN' STEEL-GUITAR-TWANGIN' COUNTRY SINGER would write. When they're not writing about their women leaving, or their daddy's in prison, or their truck, or their dog, or their momma who's been working too hard, or the horror of 9/11. Of course I could be wrong ...
